YvY is looking for a highly qualified , dynamic candidate with a Masters Degree in Education to work as a Curriculum Coach for a well established girl's school in Boro Park through the Title I department, offering Professional Development Services to a group of Pre 1A teachers.

 

The coach would meet with and observe the Pre 1A teaches in the classrooms 1-2x week(during the school day Monday to Thursday 12:30-3:30). The coach will have conversations with the teachers and review their existing curriculum and with input from the teachers put together a comprehensive learning experience for the students, ensuring their students readiness to enter first grade. 

 

The curriculum coach would focus on phonemic awareness and emergent reading, integrated with science and social studies thematic units, and dedicate their time to designing and implementing a holistic, interdisciplinary curriculum. This role requires a deep understanding of early childhood education, literacy development, and the ability to seamlessly weave together various subjects to create an engaging and comprehensive learning experience for young students.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

1. Curriculum Design:

    Develop a robust Kindergarten curriculum that emphasizes phonemic awareness and emergent reading skills.

    Integrate literacy instruction with science and social studies thematic units to create a cohesive learning experience.

 

2. Instructional Strategies:

    Utilize research based instructional strategies to teach phonemic awareness, such as rhyming, blending, segmenting, and manipulating sounds.

    Incorporate interactive read aloud, shared reading, and guided reading sessions that connect with science and social studies themes.

    Design hands on, experiential learning activities that promote critical thinking and curiosity in young learners.

 

3. Resource Development:

    Create and curate high quality instructional materials, including lesson plans, visual aids, and interactive tools.

    Develop thematic units that integrate science and social studies concepts with literacy skills.

    Ensure materials are accessible and engaging for diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students with special needs.

 

4. Professional Development:

    Provide training and support to  teachers on the implementation of the integrated curriculum.

    Offer workshops and coaching sessions to enhance teachers’ skills in teaching phonemic awareness and emergent reading.

    Stay current with the latest research and best practices in early literacy and interdisciplinary instruction.

 

5. Assessment and Evaluation:

    Design and implement assessment tools to monitor students’ progress in phonemic awareness and emergent reading.

    Use formative and summative assessments to guide instructional decisions and differentiate instruction.

    Analyze student data to identify trends, inform instruction, and provide targeted interventions.

 

6. Collaboration and Communication:

    Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the integrated curriculum.

    Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers about their child’s progress and ways to support literacy development at home.

    Foster a collaborative learning environment that encourages the sharing of ideas and resources among educators.

 

Qualifications:

 Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.

 Extensive experience in teaching  early elementary grades.

 In depth knowledge of phonemic awareness, emergent reading, and interdisciplinary instruction.

 Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.

 Ability to design engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children.
